My wife is looking for a city bike. I am thinking of Breezer Freedom or Bianchi Milano. I have looked at Trek Lime, but she does not like coaster brakes. She wants internal geared bikes. Any other suggestions?

We did not want to get anything too expensive to avoid the bike being stolen. Otherwise the ANT bikes and Goodrich bikes look great.

Raleigh and Giant both have something to look at. You will EVEN find 650b wheels here and there....OMG!!!

Maybe you can find something like this in the dumpster:

All kidding aside, Musgravecycles is a pro with this ask him.

I use my Bike Friday as a "city" bike. Med/large Carradice bag hung from loops on my B-17 has lots of clearance and needs no rack. Mine is New World Traveler w/3spd Sachs hub and 7spd twist-grip shifters and rear derailer. They have several stock bikes that might work for you and they have used bikes w/new bike warranties too. The fold-up travel potential is a bonus.

Virtually any new-looking bicycle is likely a target for dirtbag bicycle thieves. Doesn't matter whether it's a custom-built titanium or a factory aluminum model. :(

really, this is the year to get a city bike. There's a veritable explosion of cool urban bikes from all the big brands. If you don't like any of the modern interpretations (as in Breezer Citizen, Trek Soho, or Novara Buzz), and don't want to spring for custom, you could always go for a real Dutch bike, a Batavus for instance, which are starting to be imported.

Cannondale makes some of the smartest urban bikes in the world, but unfortunately hasn't sold them here (and still doesn't).

But I just think it's cool that practical bikes are starting to appear finally, and hope they sell.

That Milano, in Celeste of course, looks sweet. There is also the Jamis Commuter Series, the 3.0 has the Shimano Nexus internal hub, and is cheaper than the Bianchi. Masi has a interesting offering coming too.

I'm going to do a build based off of an IRO Rob Roy, picked up on a recent 'group buy.' Thinking of the Shimano Alfine, and perhaps a dynamo front hub. It will likely end up around $600, building the wheels myself, and scrounging flea-bay for the rest. Hard to beat some of the already made commercial offerings, even if you have to change a couple items.

These look pretty cool to me. Internal gearing, disc brakes, rack mounts etc.

I really like the look of the Centrum. I wish it came with Nexus internal shifting and perhaps a dynahub and while I'm at the wish list of upgrades how about some fenders.

How about the Velo Orange Mixte city bike?

made to measure in the USA by Ahren Rogers. Not quite in a league with a Goodrich, perhaps (not many peers in that peer group) but certainly not very far behind -- and at $1350 for the frameset, quite a bargain. More about the frames: http://velo-orange.com/vomamifr.html

I'm sure you can build something like this up with one of the excellent internal geared hubs available now from SRAM, Shimano, etc.

The bike from Breezer is probably the best bet. Breezer is committed to changing the world on a bicycle.

Thanks for all of your input. The Specialized looks interesting. The Velo Orange is very classy, but probably out of our price range.

I will see which one she likes when she tries out the bikes. Obviously I am obsessive about bikes, but for all I know, she might choose one based on the color. Thanks.
