Took my 20 year old Pinarello (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?p=384224#post384224) out for a 30 mile spin this morning. Beautiful foliage, crisp breeze, muted sunshine.

I'm very fortunate to have a bunch of "modern" bikes and I enjoy them all.

I'm 49 and grew up riding steel with downtube shifters and I still love steel and downtube shifters. Elegant thin tubes. Chromed bits and pieces. Nicely curved fork. Bars that have no idea what ergonomic means. Quilled stem that will never see a spacer. 36 spoke wheels that I can actually build. 20 pounds - who cares?

Retro grouch indeed.

Sweet ride. Some things never go out of style.

We were on a ride several weeks ago and a couple who joined us were riding vintage Pino's; his was a twin of yours. Very nice.

I'm 56 and grew up with downtube shifters too. However, though they work just fine when adjusted properly and look great, I prefer the modern (STI) style shifting.
