I hurt my back and need to raise my bar height. I flipped my Ritchey 4-axis 84 degree stem up and can ride comfortably now but want to get a stem that has a higher ride without being"flipped". Is there any stem out there close to 90 degrees? Would it be too much to ask for it to be light, strong and good looking too?

Thanks everyone.

This one comes in Zero degree. A little bulky but not bad.

You can also get the Deda Newton is 86 degree which will raise you up a bit.

The steel stem looks great, but doesn't come in a 31.8.

Are you OK with getting about "half the higher ride" that flipping your -6 to +6 gave you?

Zero degree stems (or 90 degrees) are not as popular IMO partly because flipping them over is not an option.

I was going to suggest the Salsa Pro Scandium. S.U.L. feature, 90-deg version, and either 26.0 or 31.8 clamp. At least it used to be available like that. Now it's gone from their main stems page, and only shows up in the "archive". Bummer. http://www.salsacycles.com/archive/stems_proScandiumSUL.html

I'm bummed about that, too, because I was going to get one. Checking the Quality special order catalog at Harris Cyclery, they still have a 31.8 in 110 and a 26 in 120. I like Salsa stems because of the "liplock" feature.

I'm using a Thomson X4 that is 90degrees. Technically a mountain bike stem, and surely overbuilt for my application, but gets the job done. A few grams weight penalty is surely worth it for the CNC'd goodness! (It is a handsome stem, imo)

Bought a Kore Elite from txcyclesport thats 90. Its chunky, stiffer than my Thomson, Ritchey or 3ttt stems but probably weighs 180 grams or so. 30 bones but I dont remember 31.8 being available.

Check out Bikeman in Maine. I've ordered 2 of the 90 degree, 26.0 stems from them in the last few months. They've at least had it in 120mm.

Easton has the EA90 stem listed in the 2008 catalog in 0 degree rise. Not sure if it is in stock yet. It will be 31.8 bar clamp.

Ritchey has an adjustable rise stem that is nice looking.
It's a little heavy, though and I think it may only be available in 26mm

I've had the thomson and the salsa. Both were nice, but the thomson seems like a much better stem. You forget it is a mountain bike stem in a day or so. I love mine.
