Do you guys who race cross do any running training? Just curious...

Yes, most do. But be careful, it can be hard on your calves.

the only reason to run for cross is so that you don't hurt your self when you are indeed forced to do so. I start with 15 minute sessions and gradually work up to a 45 minute run. Once I can do that, I do very short sessions with the bike on my shoulder - no more than 30 seconds and bag the jogging. It's still a bike race and the guy who pedals fastest wins, but pre conditioning your roadie legs so that you don't pull a muscle or damage a tendon is adviseable.

Just a thought. I've coached a bunch of crossr's and this issue keeps comming up. I've come to the conclusion it is another "it depends" answer...sorry...boooooring! Some regions have a ton of runups, scrambles etc. and others have next to nothing eg. the legal requirement. The running workouts I give...when they are needed are short and usually include cycling after. Just sayin. Just because you never were a "runner" per se is no reason to start. However cross practice is a must and you will get all the running you'll need to find out if you are going to need more specific training.
Yuck yuck...the mtm bike races in Canaan Valley / White Tail / Laird Knight blah blah blah during the late 80's had a TON un-ridable long arse hills that you RAN!!! I practiced running. Make sense?
