Anyone tried anything from Edge Composites yet?

Am curious about the rims. Saw across the hall that the spoke holes are molded (not drilled) into the rim, as well as the nipple bed being curved to better fit the nipples.

This got my juices flowing...

my 38er's 20/24 will be here in a couple days. i look forward to building them up. i am told 170kg-f and no issue although i have no intentions of getting that high.

i am biased though. edge has been rolling my tubes and molding my stays for a year now and it is nice stuff. their new fork has just begun to ship readily and I am very pleased with it as well.

I spoke with Edge today, it seems one of their best traits is the ultra-consistent braking because of the raised/machined braking surface (the carbon isn't machined, the molds have a perfectly machined braking surface which yields the same on the rims), which is appealing for CX applications.

Would love to hear a report once you get them built up Nick...

Are Edge rims and Blackwell rims the same? I believe I was told that they are produced by the same carbon house in China. Thats not a bad thing at all IMO but I was more curious if anyone knew for sure since a Blackwell rear wheel is in my future?

As I understood it these rims are produced in-house, maybe I misunderstood. Nick should know though...

Here is some more information about the edge rims. The link has photos and another link that discusses pricing.

not even close. blackwell is an outsource job.

edge has a plant in utah and china and both are owned by edge and afaik, they dont do third party rims at this juncture.

I got a pair of the rims last week and they are very nice. The brake surface is raised and very smooth. The spoke holes are molded in and not drilled.

Yes, it is carbon.

They will be like every carbon rim now, $650 to $750 per rim.

drift.....

The Nimble Fly rims are about 1/2 that. How do they stack up against other carbon rims?

I too was impressed with them at Interbike so Jake at Edge is sending my rims out today. Hopefully will be trying out their fork as well.. Once I get the wheels built I will post opinions..
