+1

Most days my 10 mile RT commute is in jeans or dress pants. Love the Brooks.

about half my riding time is spent in cargos and a t-shirt - oddly, I think those are the rides I enjoy the most - less time thinking about the details, more time enjoying the weather

somehow, lycra puts me in a different state of mind - too often I try too hard to be a "cyclist" and miss the whole point of riding

Yeah - I love my B-17's - and find that I ride short rides in shorts (under 20 miles) not spandex/lycra/whatever.

Still prefer a wicking jersey tho...

I have ridden to a local grocer or even cafe in normal attire, but why would the saddle make a difference. The cotton is still in contact with you skin, right?

Does the saddle present less friction between the shorts and the saddle?

Boxers or briefs? Any comments from passersby?

briefs cut into my thigh/body intersection. I have knit and woven/sewn boxers. The knit ones tend to bunch up when sweaty. In the classic woven and sewn boxers the best are some Polo brand that are sewn so there is no seam where I sit. The BEST u-trow for this kind of outfit are the knit wicking boxers from REI. They are good for touring too as they can be washed and dried easily overnight.

Yo, if I'm doing some errands I wear whatever I've already got on, but come on people: the stretchy stuff is where it's at. The stigma is the only downside, and you can get over that pretty easily with a few trips to the grocery store in the kit. Just be careful not to tarry too long near the peaches.

The saddle just supports me correctly. The downside to cotton is that it
collects sweat over a period of time I've noticed. So for rides over 30 miles,
I'll wear the lycra.

The problem with Lycra is that it itches a bit.

If ya go cotton short, I've found it best to nix the tighty whiteys.

around the world are riding in other garb that has neither lycra or padding, I'm sure too that many are doing a lot more miles on saddles that had a prior use before being shaped into a butt sling.

I enjoy pulling out the beater, slipping on the mtb shoes and rolling out wearing whatever. I'm getting close to shedding the helmet too.

OK, but watch out for those electrical cables in parking lots. :)
