Is there a reason that it is not more common for road bikes to be made to accept wider tires?

Would the geo some how affect handling?

Do most people feel like 25's are all that is needed?

Weight!?

Is it limited by the brakes/bridge?

It just seems to me that if there is no penalty more bikes/forks should be wider.

A. Roads get better, tires get smaller.
B. Clement went out of business, no more fat tubies.
C. Race weight tires bigger than 25mm don't exist*.
D. Veloflex makes a 22, so everbody rides 22s
E. Reynolds forks barely fit what? a 24.5 Evo Open Corsa.

*Major manufacturer, ie tour sponsor, Gran Bois doesn't count.

generally: if it's a carbon fork it's for a "race" bike and bigger tires aren't used in road racing.

sux if: you're trying to be practical or have fun and all.

solution: buy a bike designed for bigger tires.

My Ottrott ST with F3 fork and 41.5cm chainstays and Shimano 9 speed D/A brakes takes Panaracer Pasela TG 28c's with ease. More than wide enough as it is not a touring bike.

I have used 23's forever, habit I gyess.
Last week I set up my Atlanta for a trip out west
with the compact cranks and for the first time, I
tried some 25's (Michlein pro race)
Well, they just barely scraped by the brakes when open (DA9)
but they settled in nicely. (ouzo pro 1" steerer)

The ride is a revelation, much smoother over harsh roads. (100 psi)
BTW the atlanta with these tires weighs in at 18.9 lbs
Oh yeah, I also flipped the stem over for a more comfortable position.

I'm ready for the hills of Utah

"Pro2Race 25 is as narrow as I will go"

Big, fat +1, and the Pro2Race 25 is really close to 27mm wide.

And my Hampsten Strada Bianca with Alpha-Q cross fork handles at least 700x32 very well, thank-you-very-much and with the YBB rear end it is a cush-mobile that is still plenty fast if the "motor" has the wattage, right PB Wrench.

Our Rivendells all handle at least 700x35 too. I can run skinny tires on any of them so there is no down-side to building a bike for most people that would allow them wider (pun intended) choices in tires.
