View Full Version : chain guards vs bash guards?

I will be using a 1x8spd drivetrain for my winter/commuter/cross bike and I have realized that the chain can (and will) drop if I do nothing about it.

I am wondering what the difference is between an MTB bashguard and a cyclocross chainguard? One weighs a ton and can be 'bashed' and the other is simply to keep things 'in line', right? But, essentially, they will do the same thing? Paired with the 'Third Eye' thing, will this keep my chain on at all times?

I am using an old school 110mm MTB crankset (MAvic MTB) and a 38tooth Surly chainring. I saw one of those polycarbonate E13 clear bashguards and thought they were nice, but is it better to find a cross guard?

Any spares kicking around?

Thanks, Darren

I have the same question, so I'll be watching this thread for the answers, too!
