Saturday-I am doing a hilly 45 mile club group ride about 30 miles or so northwest of where I live.

Sunday- Maybe another ride from the same ride start, about the same length, but not as hilly, I think.

I plan to do both slowly as I have not had too much energy recently, but I want to ride and see people.

Enjoy your rides on your fixed, Fixed. Make them SAFE!!

If you care to answer, why do you ride all alone? I would think that if forum members picked somone on the forum that they would want to meet and ride with, you would certainly be at the top of the list. Really. Of course, I think that most of us wouldn't be able to keep up....but I don't think that you would drop us to badly anyway......

Start at the coffee shop, ride 9 miles to Saturday Breakfast Ride start.
Ride 21 miles, eat pancakes off a grill not cleaned since Ike was there.
Excellent pancakes, bring your own maple syrup.
Ride 33 miles back to the coffee shop.

Bike, Chris Kvale, 'cause polished stainless fenders look great in the morning light.

Yeah me too mainly. I started riding with the club more this year...they leave at 9:00 am sharp. They told me that i need to wear a bike jersey...adds 1 mph. oh yeah...and two water bottles. ok so i did...and have to admit that it is fun riding with the group. But, I like riding on my own also. You go wherever you want. If you get lost...you have to find your way back.. If dogs chase, you hafta deal with that. meanwhile, you get to see nice scenery.

+1...

I much rather ride with friends or strangers for that matter... actually, basically people, but now that I think about it, maybe not limited to people.... I mean, if a dog could ride a bike....and wasn't too squirley.... and took its fair share of pulls.

oh and maybe chipped in for beer afterwards.

but didn't have a creaky carbon crankset or squeeky chain or cleat. Wait, do you think dogs go clipless? oh nevermind. as long as you don't brake check me at every manhole cover, we're good. I mean go ahead and point it out... just don't touch your damn brakes... squirley *** dogs. :bike:

If you are ever in the Memphis area, look me up. I will hook you up with the Club Special. I don't know about going fixed, but I could take off the derailleurs and set you up with a 53/19 SS.

We can grab some good vittles after.... maybe some ribs?

If your in town on a Sunday we can do our Saints and Sinners ride. We can take the pornos and prisons route.... yeah, don't ask.

My nasty cold has finally started to move its way out of my lungs so I'm probably doing simple stuff this weekend. Ride up to the market for some fresh basil, visit my friends at the gluten free bakery, then maybe another little ride around later in the day when it warms up some. Have to mow the grass and whatnot.

Sunday may be a dirt road ride. Or perhaps I'll ride up to watch the cross race? I'll figure that out Sunday. :)

Last week I managed to ride with three of my ride buddies on separate days. Fun times.
Sometimes, we'll all ride together, but that doesn't happen too often. I don't ride in groups much, not that I don't enjoy it from time to time...but it's been a long time since I was able to keep up, and really...this late in the season I don't feel much like learning whose wheel to stay away from. That's something for Spring when I'm just happy to be out on the road.

rode with daughter and her friend to the next town, pert near before the sun rose, so the two of them could get to their job at the farmer's market. Nice 4 mile ride for me. Chilly. Spooked the heck out of one doe. Used the beater and the shifting went perfectly.

In about 30 minutes I'm out of here using the Calfee on a 60 mile club ride up into Putnam county. This one is going to hurt.

i'm a loner too. with the right riders, riding together can be great but it's hard to find those right buds. riding alone, i can be more sure of having a good, productive, enjoyable ride.

and as fixed said, monday through friday, i'm riding with time constraints, rushed 'cause gotta get to work. weekends, i like to wake up when i want, get caffienated at a nice slow pace, and slide into my ride when i want. though weekend rides are usually hard, effort-wise, i like to make it a mellower experience, if that makes sense. that's easier alone.

I'm still working out the details, but it was lots of fun. The ride was about 10 miles rt to the grocery store with my wife. I like the feeling of staying on top of the gear and flying up a hill. Going down hills is another matter; the stock Tektro brake cartridges are not going to cut it.

How does everyone run the handlebars on their fixed gear compared to their standard road bike? Going downhill and not putting any power into the pedals seems like a lot of weight on my hands.

101 miles in the mountains of Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. This was my first "hub ride" with UMCA (ultra-marathon cycling association) stalwart Russ Loomis. It was a perfect cool fall day, aside from the wind. It felt like it was always uphill or upwind, usually both! Russ was good company, and gracious enough to ride at my modest pace.

I love this time of year...

So I'm out there halfway out on the ride and "Crunch!" "Thang!" "Bwang!" "Huh?!", my front derailleur cable decided to pop right behind the shifter stop.

Well, I really do need to work harder on my high cadence spin, so the rest of the ride was done using the 39. No probs until we hit this one long gradual descent about 7 miles long, everyone else was in their 53/12 or whatever ramping up the romp. I managed to stay with them for about 6 miles, spinning the mad-fool. Afterwards, my knees weren't feeling too good. They held up for me on one corner, near the end of the ride, and I rolled up and told them to leave me to die. They did.

32 lonely miles so I could spend the majority of the day with my wife. It was worth it.

At a stoplight, a guy in a car asked me how far I was going. Thick Italian accent, a cloud of cigarette smoke - "I used to to that all the time!" A few miles later, I got passed by a motorcycle cop. Blipped his siren and raised a fist in a salute as he passed me. Sometimes the drivers are nice...

Tomorrow, riding longer with a friend.

Didn't ride today, but I did get to watch Cal beat Oregon. I was supposed to do the Livestrong Century tomorrow with a buddy, but the weather is not cooperating so they cut out the mountains and dropped it back to 70 miles. Should be fun still and the 70 miles looks like lots of rolling hills and fast riding. Anyone else doin the Portland, OR LiveStrong ride?

PS: I ride alone a lot as well. Mostly because I usually ride when everyone else is working.

One ride Saturday, in Lake Placid. Down 86, 9N, up 73. In the notch past the cliffs where the falcons nest it was peak foliage, low angle sunlight and the fog just lifted about 2/3 of the way up the cliff. I couldn't help but have an enormous grin on my face. Then just about down to the Whiteface road a car passes, pulls over in a turnout and an arm starts waving out the window. I'm thinking "Geez, but I'm not from around here and they're going to want directions." I pull up to the window and it's a guy from town here I haven't ridden with in a long time up for the weekend with his wife and they were headed to Catamount to go hiking. We got a laugh out of not seeing each other for a while and then bumping into each other there.
