I used to 'conveniently' plan our vacations around races. There was the Northeast excursion right around the CoreStates race. There was the Southeast tour right around the '96 Tour DuPont...

Not sure how I pulled those off thru the years but with 2 young kids nowadays, my days of strategic vacation planning are behind me!

no i'm not going to race silly. the race is for potential world champions.

we're taking the kids. flying into a Milan and making our way slowly to Tuscany and then over to Venice. I've never been, so I'll be looking for ideas down the line.

HA! Very awesome, that. I'm gonna have to use it. See how many non-cyclists / non-Europeans I can confuse at one time. The Phillies just moved into a tie for first last night. yeah, we booked. we leave Portland the 23rd, flying over the pole to Frankfurt and connecting to Milan. We come home 2/3. We'll make our way to the Treviso/Venice area first. I'll take in the race while they do what women in Italy do and then we'll drive to Florence to take in the museums and galleries for a few days. We'll then likely head to Pisa and then back to Milan.

I had a plate of the best pesto in my life at an outdoor cafe in Florence.

Speaking fo women doing what women do.... We shopped at a "flea market". Can't think of a better word for it right at the moment. Anyway, My spouse found a marble chess set that she had to have! We had about a week left of our vacation in Italy and then over to london; I didn't want to have to carry the dadgum thing all over Gods green earth... But i did! Still have the silly thing sitting in dust buried in the back of a cabinet somewhere.
