Is there much difference between the DT 240S hubs and these Specialized S-Works/240 hubs:

The picture says a pair of these hubs weigh 362g, not too bad.

At $100 for the pair, it seems like an excellent deal, thoughts?!

The Specialized S Works hub are the 1st generation 240. They were unreliable and had poor quality bearings. The freehub star ratchet system had issues as well. Avoid them unless you carry a cell phone and are addicted to gambling.

My question still has not been answered.

Thanks.

The 340 shares the star ratchet system with DT's more expensive hubs but is heavier, 100 grams?, and has a different shape and possibly different labyrinth sealing system. DT's website doesn't work too well so I can't confirm the weight. The hubs are less expensive than the 240S so they probably aren't as well finished as the more expensive models.

Here is a pdf on the DT hubs. Joe Young is a big fan of the DT 240s hubs and mine have been fine so far albeit noiser than Dura-Ace.

As far as the noise - I've got two 240s hubs. One, built up my Mike Garcia in 2005, is really noisy. Buzzing bees noisy. Chris King noisy. The second, built up my Mike earlier this year, is much, much quieter. I've asked knowledgeable people about the noise, and have been assured it's no problem. Still, it's strange to me that the two are so different...

They shouls all be really good wheels. The lube port is worthless, you don't want to dump oil in your hubs.

Or, you could buy some grey centaur 32 or 36 hubs, reflex rims, dt 14-15 spokes, brass nips, build them well, T & S, and glue up some vittoria cx's, you will absolutely love the ride and the strength and the cost.
