i was riding in the rain for a couple hours last weekend.
using dura ace brakes with stock pads and '08 eurus wheels.
i got all sorts of crud between the pads and the rims and the rims got torn up.
to the point where aluminum was embedded in the pad and the braking got worse and worse.
i've had this happen before.
curiously, my friend, who was riding campy brakes, pads and wheels didn't have this problem.
how do i keep this from happening?

Switch to Kool Stop salmon. They don't gather the grit or metal flakes and your rims last longer as a result.

Do the Kool Stop salmons work well in the dry?

Can I just get the pads, or do I need to replace the whole shoe?

...too lazy to do the research myself!

Yes to question #1. They come as inserts, just like the Shimano and Campy pads. Try their website for more info.

i can't seem to find any solution
to the avid shorty 6 brake system
and a brake pad that is carbon rim specific
good in dry and wet conditions...
...since it's cross season
i wouldn't think i'm the only one with this problem...

+1 to question #1.

Koolstop Salmon pads are my favorite *dry weather* pad. I find the Koolstop Salmon pads resist fade better in the dry than stock Shimano pads or even Koolstop black pads.
