View Full Version : Thoughts on the garage door shot. . .

I know I'm not too high on the Serotta Forum Totem Pole, but I'd like to challenge the conventional garage door wisdom. . .
Isn't it a bit odd that in all of the gallery images a garage door is a requirement?

Insisting on a garage door implies a certain dependency on garages, and therefore cars.

So. . . owning and photographing a Serotta or other custom bike is basically making the statement "Yes, I support Big Oil!"

Or,
Maybe the nice flat white paneling just allows us to gawk at the details and lines of some really fantastic machines.

(sorry, boring day @ the office)

Hey,

I do not have a garage, neither my pictures are taken in front of a garage door!

I ride a Vespa to work and my wife commute is only 3 miles...

A! ;)

That's my question too.

The thing I've noticed about photos is how everyone comments on the things in the background too. Like the garage door, the furniture, the dog crate, or whatever else is lurking back there. It's all a little glimpse into the poster and everyone is curious!

My garage is dominated by bikes. But I had to find a way to squish a car somewhere inside :-)
Anyway originally it's the bikes' home

to send twins to college. Everyone needs a Garage (http://www.taylorgarages.com/) or two at least. No cars, no problem we'll call it a glorified bike barn :D . Although I do agree that there are beter places to take pictures of bikes. I like the one on the left (http://www.kirkframeworks.com/index.htm) quite a bit myself. Enjoy the day. Frank

I don't own a house, and my neighborhood garage door isn't really attractive:

Karin,

That's why this post (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showpost.php?p=11388&postcount=1) became a sticky a couple of years ago.... Please note tips #1 and #6B.

Oh well.... Nobody's perfect! :D

A lot of homes have garages. I never assume there's always a car in there.

I like riding through the neighborhood and checking out all the open garages. Many are piled from floor to ceiling with junk. There's no room for anything. People, if you store it in the garage and it's still in the moving company boxes, you don't need it, it's JUNK! :crap:

My kayak, canoe, and table saw are NOT junk. Thanks.

Well...the table saw, sure.

(not my garage door, but I think it's a nice backdrop for a white bike...)

I think "insisting" on a garage door is just kind of a running joke cuz everyone seems to do it.....

...Maybe the nice flat white paneling just allows us to gawk at the details and lines of some really fantastic machines.
Most likely....nice convenient back-drop.....

The garage door is a clean, mostly non-identifiable backdrop. You know....to prevent stalkers and to avoid location of those in the witness protection program...

It's a joke. The whole garage door thing is a joke...

See Ginger, I really can't see anything about your bike except that it's a bike. I like the garage door background concept because the bike stands out so well. But then, I'm a hopelessly addicted bike porn junkie.

As far as backdrops, more garage doors please. Less grass, trees, barns. OK, I don't mind Gotthard's Swiss Alps backdrops.

I think our pix of bikes aginst closed garage doors are symbols of the bicycles' domination of cars thereby keeping the cars behind the doors off the road. :)

No, the bike is just small.

The rear water bottle is certainly swoop approved.

The front one *is* a touch larger. Fortunately I don't worry too much about being forum approved on my water bottles or my door choice.

vax...it IS a bike! You get the cookie!

Using the garage door is easy - no need to clean up the inside of the house.
