I don't habitually make predictions...but...Nicole Cooke will be the greatest cyclist ever.

Nicole Cooke Wins Stage in Giro and Leads Overall

WOMENS TOUR OF ITALY (July 10, Stage 8): Nicole Cooke sent out an omnious warning to her rivals for the Olympic title when she won stage 8 of the Womens Tour of Italy, where she beat Edita Pucinskaite by 8" on a mountain top finish. The stage win also saw her take over the leaders 'Pink jersey' and wth only the final stage to Milan to come, the British Champion has effectively won the 'Giro Donne' at her first attempt.

In her first attempt at this event, one of the key events in the International Womens Calendar, Nicole was in confident mood and as Nicole does repeatedly in victories, she attacked her rivals and won alone. Although it sounds easy, her rival, Edita Pucinskaite, made her work hard for it all the way to the line and it was only an attack 300 metres from the finish that Nicole was finally able to 'bury' her opponent and win in a style she is accustomed to.

Her victory is all the more remarkable in that the gruelling event, one for Women not unlike the Mens Tour de France currently being fought out in the neighbouring France, is only Nicole's second race of the year after knee surgery in Bath (UK). To keep up-to-date, more details will appear on her website (click here!) throughout the evening.
