I'm looking at buying an aluminum bike for rain and upcoming winter use. I've found a nice looking and inexpensive Colnago Dream, but there is a fair amount of paint bubbling and corrosion around the rear brake cable stop on the underside of the top tube, and to a lesser degree around the bottle cage bolt-ons on the down tube.

Seems I've heard over the years that corroded aluminum is in some ways even weaker/more dangerous than rusty steel, but my internet "research" on it over the past day or two seems to suggest that the aluminum forms a sacrificial strong coating when it corrodes... and that it maintains its strength well.

What do folks out there think? It sure is a pretty frame... :D
