Interbike is next week in Las Vegas...who has plans to attend?
I'll be there Monday-Saturday and staying at Circus Circus. I know it's a busy week, but it would still be nice to meet some forum members.

Why they don't open a weekend to the public and help defray their costs for the exhibitors is beyond me.

And if you are going, what's your role within the bike industry? I've been in retail for over 20 years (they haven't kicked me out yet), this year will be my first time to Interbike. A number of my customers go every year...

Don't miss out on Cross Vegas and the Crit as well.

Should be some real fireworks. But then again, fireworks are pretty common in Vegas.

Have a blast.

Why they don't open a weekend to the public and help defray their costs for the exhibitors is beyond me.

What's in it for the vendors? Only more cost in keeping their booths up and the ooo-ahhh factor of consumers would have little to do with selling the product since it's the vendor's aim to get their stuff in the bike shops. Then there is the slightly more cynical view that a fair portion of the industry would rather you not know where everything comes from, how much of it is hype (you can cut the irony with an imaginary butta'knife), and how little of it is all that original. The teaser pictures that appear on media sites does just enough.

Not going this year and happy to be missing Vegas. I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could see Dario. For me, it's about friends, not stuff. Like here.

Look I always read how people are so over Interbike, and how played out it is. That is fine, but for a certified loacal gear boy, I think it is wonderful! I have never been, I have begged shops to take me, I offered to work for free in my spare time to go. blah blah blah.

Some day I HOPE to go as it is a dream. Yeah you may be tired of going year after year, but for some of us so called adults we dream about it. Call it the lights, the beautiful....stuff :D or the wonderful stops people pull out to make their brand that much more appealing. It may be over form some of you, but please oh pretty please some one post as many pics as you can here, or even better just send them to me!

Also for those that do go and snap pics, some of us here LOVE MOUNTAIN BIKES, so maybe a pic or 1000 of them if you please!

Sorry...I got carried away and did not mean to shout! :D

Ya know, I have this Southwest Airlines ticket that I was gonna use to ride with Smiley and the MD gang last spring.

Last I checked, SWA flies from Manchester, NH to Las Vegas.....

Nah, I'd be in real hot water if I hopped out there, watched the Crit and Cross, and then flew back for the Tour du Bivalve and Hib on Wheels.

But it sure would have been fun.

Last time I was in Vegas was 1977 when we flew there on a Navy training flight; spent the weekend. After 30 years, I'm sure Vegas has changed. I'm not into the crowds and congestion, so that will be yuck, but this is my first "bike convention".

Since it's my first time to Interbike, it's not that I'm looking forward to the "show" as much as I am to "meeting" my reps. I've been our shop's clothing buyer since 2004 and have worked with some of the same people since then. We've become friends from afar and I'm looking forward to putting faces with names. The vendors that provide the "bread and butter" apparel at the shop have taken good care of me. Yeah, I know, I know, it's business, but I can ask some of them about their kids, horses, bikes, races they've done, and in return, they've kept up with my adventures, my son, and how I am doing.

So, I guess I'm with Mr President in that I'm excited about having one "place" to search for new things I'd like to bring into the shop and to look at items up close that I've been curious about, but I also understand dear Douglas, because I am looking more so to meeting new "old" friends. I, too, was hoping to meet Dario...:( And if I meet a few new forum members on the floor that will definitely sweeten the deal. ;)

Regarding the "new" things to bring into our shop...we are pretty excited as we opened in March 2004 and have occupied two store fronts. At the beginning of August, the business next door vacated and walls were knocked down and our store is now three store fronts! Lots and lots of space to fill with new bikes, clothing, stuff, stuff, stuff! I'm looking for specific items, so it's not like I'm going into a candy store unprepared (thankfully). Won't buy at the show, but will be taking in lots of information.

Where will the cross race (Wednesday) be held and the crits (Thursday) and how far are these places from the strip? Is there transportation to these race places?

Thanks for any info.

Grant and swoop...I'm shaving for Interbike, then again, I try to always be "clean" shaven. :p

RA;

If you go to the Excel Sports website, they have links to the cross event website.

They are the prime sponsors.

I seem to remember reading info about transportation and such. Desert Breeze Park is not that far from the strip about 7 blocks back from the Mandalay Bay / Luxor area so maybe you could "demo" a bike for the evening. ;)

I am thinking you shouldn't have much trouble finding someone to give you a ride as there are lots of folks at the show who will probably have a car and be going.

I think the crit is at The Mandalay Bay at the end of the Strip near The Luxor and towards the airport. It is a long walk from Circus Circus but I've done it. I am pretty sure there are buses and again you could possibly find a ride.

I'm jealous. :D

Plus, this is where people pick up cool swag. For those of us who do not work in/at a shop, or are not gurus of the sport, this is the kind of thing we miss out on. I have asked so many companies if I could buy some of the free stuff they give out.

Like this. I called up Moots and asked if they had any..."Yep" is there any way I could buy one..."Nope" and then the guy laughed and hung up.

He must have had a bad day, but this stuff is sweet!

Moots Ti pencil holder!

It turns out that I'm going to be in Vegas through Wednesday! A work industry (not bicycles) conference at the Wynn.

Is there any way for non industry folk to crash the party on Wed? I could still catch a red-eye home that night.

Thoughts??

I will if all I have to do is book the new reservation before the 12 months expires but I believe I need to USE the ticket within 1 year.

It would have been nice to save a few bucks.

On the other hand, I 'm still waiting for aLeXis to tell me when it would be a good time to come ride in Austin and drink margueritas... :D
