At the Karlsruhe Marathon (this morning), I was surprised to see a gentleman dressed in formal wear astride a velocipede (see picture below) at the side of the course.
Those familiar with antique 2-wheelers may recognize this as an early 1800's "Draisienne." Karl Drais from Karlsruhe, Germany is credited with inventing this precursor to the modern bicycle. (more here) (http://www.karl-drais.de/en_biography.pdf)
From the aging of the wood, it appeared to be a museum piece.
