Of course, he said the same thing back in June 2006, which begs the question why did we need the surge if things were going so well.

Then again this is the senator that doesn't believe in global warming and believes that intelligent design should be taught as a science.

Going back to 2005

… we will have trained 300,000 by end of 2006 and 325,000 by July 2007. It is at this final level that we will see the Iraqis standing almost completely on their own, securing their country and protecting their citizens.

Overpromise and underdeliver. That's one of the themes of this war.

Just wondered . . . I used to live in Tulsa back in the 80's and he was the mayor.

Reason enough to seek refuge in that bastion of liberality that upstate New York is :)

I live in Oklahoma and couldn't be more ashamed of an Oklahoma out there, although Tom Coburn is a close second...

He wasn't quite as conservatively wacky when he was mayor of Tulsa. But from what I've heard of Coburn, he may win the prize for out-Inhofe-ing Inhofe!

I am still waiting for that section of oil and grease on my garage floor
to evolve into a Porsche 911 Turbo. I even mixed in some metal flakes,
creating a primetal soup.

Give it a few billion years. These things don't happen overnight. Oh, and by then Porsche might have a new 911 out.
