beer, that is!!

what is the favorite? wondering if its regional or if a lot of cyclists prefer the generic lites?

me, i like many that are hoppy such as magic hat ipa or smutty nose ipa and nugget nectar from troegs. i guess hoppy beers are best for my taste buds. but, i do like a lite beer such as miller lite.

i am wondering if other roadies drink beer on a regular basis. i know mtn bikers are asscociated with beer drinking, but i both road and mtn ride.

it does not matter what you ride, its IF you ride. (goes for motorcycling, too)

cheers,
sean

Drink it? I brew it! Make what I want, drink what I make. Does not get any better. Four beers on tap, the perfect beverage after a long ride (and Endurox immediately after the ride).

Dang! From the title I thought this was a thread on either Limoncello or Tequila.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am. :D

Living in England, I've got a thing going for real ale. I'm also a big fan of the Belgian stuff - especially the Trippels and Abbey ales.

Oh, and a real eye-opener the other weekend was Innis & Gunn - oak aged beer! A great bridge between an English and a Belgian beer.

Brewed an "American Mild with Mint" on Saturday.

Yes, that's weird. No, it won't last long.

After my last batch, and my little trip to Brittany, I'm also really excited about cider and perry. Only problem is it takes eighteen months to taste really good.

Other beer news: Victory is releasing their Baltic Porter on Oct. 15. Beer with beans! Beer fans in SE PA will owe it to themselves to check it out.

I LOVE victory - hopdevil is a personal favorite (the pils is one of the few pils I enjoy outside of Belgium)

Aside from a few local micro's, I'll stick with Belgian ale :)

Start thinking about a trip to upstate NY next September.

We're talking serious dirt road riding and immediate access to the Ommegang brewery.

Details to come. Stay tuned.

I grew up next door to the guy who brews it. He was a brew master for both Anheuser Busch and Coors and now makes his own product as a labor of love.

Not so hot on the Orval myself. I really like St Bernadus Prior 8 though - to be honest I prefer my Belgian brews a little treacley....

Those of you in the US can look away now, but I got some good stuff from the supermarket this evening - four-bottle packs of Meantime (http://www.meantimebrewing.com/) for £2 / $4 each - Rasberry, Cologne Lager and Whitbeer. Mmmm

PBR and Hank Williams, still reminds me of my Da

W/o a doubt one of the best suds that side of the Mississip'.

Fat Tire too is pert near perfect

"“Rushing the growler” was a term used for taking an aluminum pail to the pub to fill, a chore often done by children. Basically, a small valve on the pail would emit the gases after the beer was poured, giving off a shrieking, or growling sound."

Another, more lame idea, is that if the kid spilled the beer dad would growl.

I see no valves here, but this, my friends, is the original twelve pack.

Fat Tire is pretty good- I quite like it. But it's not a Brown Ale...

I like various Belgian trippels and also hoppy IPA's. My go-to brew is Dale's Pale Ale. I'm working on a homebrew clone of it now, though I don't think I'll be able to get the alcohol % as high as I'd like.

Dogfish Head's Indian Brown ale is tasty; if you can find Brooklyn Brown on tap it makes a nice session beer, but the bottled version (contract brewed) is just okay.

In my quest to lose weight (well, lose fat) I've pretty much given up on beer. I can't remember the last time I had one.

I've cut way back on alcohol consumption in general (not that I ever was much of a drinker). I do enjoy wine, and might have a glass or two per week, but that's about it these days :(

Next week I'll be in Munich and I'll not totally refrain.

Dogfish Head's Indian Brown ale is tasty;

I was just going to bring this one up. On the "downside", at 7% alc/vol it is not exactly as quaffable as one might expect of a brown ale.

A very good session brown ale is Troegs' Rugged Trail. In fact, I need to go up the road one of these days and get a sixtel of this.

Some of my consistent favorite:

Just about anything from Ipswitch (http://www.mercurybrewing.com/IPS.html).
Just about everything from Samuel Smith (http://www.merchantduvin.com/pages/5_breweries/samsmith.html).
Fuller's (http://www.fullers.co.uk/frames.phtml) also makes a wide variety of great beers.
Sam Adams Lager (this is my standby, as it's available just about everywhere, is always good and, hey, it's brewed in my backyard!)

Dogfish Head makes some good IPAs, but please keep the Raison D'Etre away from me. Please.

I am not a fan of Belgian beer. If I want to drink wine, I'll drink wine.

Nor am I a fan of mainstream American beers. If I want to drink a watery, freezing, tasteless beverage, I'll have some icewater.

New Holland Brewing Co. also in Michigan, makes a great stout called The Poet

I like alot of the tasty suds that the Full Sail guys create, their IPA's are great, the Amber rock's, their Barley Wine is actually palletable and, as if that was not enough, they support a good sized stage race! WOW. Can you imagine another brewer that does not support NASCAR? Wait! I can. Sierra Nevada does that too! My goodness, it is like they were meant to be, bikes and brews aaahhhhhhh sooo gooood! When I lived in California, my brother-in-law and I began to brew our own. We went to a discount store and bought 20 cases (!) of some cr*ppy Polish beer at $4 a case, only for the heavy brown glass bottles.

We brewed stout and pale ale. The stout was killer. We made labels ("Pat & Mike's® Sonoma Stout" … motto: "Made with the finest ingredients we could afford") and were actually asked by a distributor friend of my father-in-laws to go retail. We didn't.

Now, many years later, I can no longer drink beer. (Or any alkie.) But I remember those brewing days fondly.

Miller High Life
Advertised as the "champagne of beers", but that's much too frou-frou. I like "carbonated butter." Miller High Life is big slabs of deer meat on a toasted roll. It's dirty fingernails scooping out pumpkin pie. It makes even the most sterile suburbanite feel like a Teamster. It's outstanding.

Rating: Extremely outstanding.

I'm not from the midwest, but I really like Bell's Oberon and especially their Kalamazoo Stout. Also Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout when it's available (still got 2 bottles), Fuller's London Porter, Aventinus Doppelbock Wheat (I think that's the name) are some of my favorites right now.

over the last ten years the American beer market has woken up and we are finally seeing more and more quality suds showing up with excellent flavor, hopefully teaching the king a thing or two. Can't say (cuz I don't know) if I've tried any of their sudsidiaries [sic] that make their own statement. I generally avoid AB and Miller.

Anyway, beer enjoyment, including the expansion of old world imports, has never been bitter [again sic].

I'm just saying.

Any beer that has a berry flavor to it.
All of those whacky flavored beers by Sam Adams.

Used to drink Rolling Rock every once and a while as it was brewed where I grew up, but AB bought the company and shut down the brewery. Not breweed in Old Latrobe anymore. Sam Adams bought the Latrobe brewery. Rolling Rock is being brewed somewhere at AB.

I loved France, but I am so happy to be able to drink real beer again (in Colorado) without having to pay $8 a pint. I enjoyed Leffe Blonde and Duvel, however this summer, completely without moderation.

Back to the Avery IPA, Mtn Sun, and Il Vicino Wet Mountain IPA.

I like to sample beers from all over. My latest regional fav is something the Mid-West drinkers may know, Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat (Chippewa Falls, WI).
There is a local beer-centric spirits shop that I support that sells Spanish Peaks Brewing, Black Dog Ale, Boseman Montana.

My question Dave, Ever tried this one? Thumbs up?

Thanks in advance,
