For all the tech junkies, the new Garmin will soon include power meter compatibilty (not sure which of SRM, Powertap or Ergomo will be supported) in the new Garmin 705.

Supposed to be available 4th quarter of '07.

Cool...I can't say enough about my 305. I don't use a power meter so I'm not sure there's enough new with the 705 to get me to upgrade.

Well, Garmin own the rights* to "ANT", a wireless protocol that is becoming popular and that's what the wireless Edge units are using. Underlying ANT are Nordic wireless chips which incidently are the chips that Polar are using for their WIND wireless units. Whether or not Polar are using ANT, I don't know. It is true however that Powertap are using ANT so one would assume that the 705 would work with the new Powertap wireless hubs.

The added combo of mapping plus PowerTap display (hopefully) would probably tip the purchase scales for me. I want the mapping mostly for countryside exploring rides.

SRM is the device they will linking up with. I saw a bit about it on the Slowtwitch forum.

A new power sensor and another computer that can read all (believe that when you see it) ANT+Sport sensors.
