I'm renting a house by the beach in Bodega Bay for the holiday weekend and I'd like to do a couple of 20 - 40 road rides. Any recommendations?

thanx

part of our honeymoon was spent bicycle touring around Sonoma County. We did a self guided tour, I believe for 4 days, w/winecountrybikes.com and it included a ride to Bodega Bay - definitely a beautiful area! I remember coming into the town of Occidental, then over a big hill and more or less heading down to Bodega Bay. Definitely enjoy your time there!

The northernmost part of the Mt. Tam Double Century goes by Bodega Bay, so I know one 30-mile loop up there. My description isn't perfect, so check it against a good map...

From where ever you'll be staying, go north or south on Hwy 1 as appropriate to get to Coleman Valley Road; follow Coleman for several miles inland, climbing steeply at first, then through many rollers. Then turn (veer?) right on Joy Road, and follow that towards the town of Valley Ford. I can't recall if Joy goes all the way back to Hwy 1, but when you do get to the town, go north on Hwy 1 back towards Bodega Bay. You could stay on the coast the whole time, or turn right on Bay Hill road for a nice climb and awesome views from the top, then drop down again to Hwy 1.

You will probably see white arrows on the pavement marking this route and the turns.

Have a great trip!

You are right by Coleman Valley road (climb from tour of California). Go over that and it drops into occidental.
You can do lots of rides from Bodega- you can go any way but west!

I came down that road on the tour Sierra to the Sea a number of years ago.
From the top we stopped and took some great pictures overlooking Bodega Bay. I would imagine going up it would be a real nice challenge. Occidental is a great little town to stop for breakfast.

Enjoy your stay.

Check this website out for ride routes in the area. There may be some already posted for you and you can just download them or print them out.

This website is excellent for finding rides throughout the USA.

Good luck,

Bob
