Buy ten junk bikes. Tell her you're fixing them up for neighborhood kids (better yet, DO it). Stick the Merckx ti in the middle. She'll never notice it.

The reason I ask is that the EX used horizontal dropouts and it is one of my life's ambitions to score a 61 and fix it. I currently have my Corsa Extra fixed and have periodically fixed my TI-AX through careful selection of cogs and chainrings (48X18 does the trick.). The TI Merckx has got to be the magic carpet ride of fixies.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

+1 on the paint. However, marriage should represent the most extreme level of trust and understanding. In a moment of weakness, you could always renew your marriage vows in exchange for the new ride.

I liked the idea from the guy who said that his garage was so messy his wife wouldn't notice another bike. If she asks anyway say...that one?? always had it.
