View Full Version : What's worse? Football or Cycling

Football is going through dog fighting ring scandal in addition to multitudes of positive drug testings leading to a few games of suspensions for a few players.

Cycling has multitudes of positive drug testings and admissions leading to a few careers ending and few years of suspensions for couple of riders, not to mention termination of a couple of teams.

Which sport is in worse shape?

well, i am not into football at all. speaking for myself, i did not follow the tour at all because of the doping. the cycling is more personal for me. in any sport, i dont understand why athletes have to cheat. just sucks.

Cycling. Cycling is dependent upon sponsorship to keep it going. Bad publicity causes sponsors to pull their support and teams fold.

last time i checked...the UCI didn't have any alumni accused of beheading spouses and their lovers. Or stabbing people at a super bowl party...etc..

Doping and cheating happens everywhere. Although, the criminal, violent activity seems to follow the NFL and NBA a little closer.

summing it up, if there is a contest to declare a winner, there will always be those who will try to bend/break rules to win.

Remember ice cubes shaped like tubing that were inserted to make bikes make weight?

It speaks directly to the product on the course or field.

I still watch and support both.

Sports and Scandals, two peas in a pod.

Dog fighting and PED's, no relation.

Vick is garbage, throw him out. Do our best to get rid of PED's and keep on keeping on.

67,000 people showed up for a pre-season game at Lambeau Field Saturday.
Does that answer your question? ;)

Football fans are either too drunk, look the other way or simply don't care about the behind the scenes issues. Along with drug use, the extremely low graduation rate at the collegiate level seems to go unnoticed as well. I haven't seen any fantasy sports mags or websites for cycling.

rw, a quick google search turned this up, can't speak to it's accuracy, but I didn't make up the numbers. Seems the top 25 grad rates are pretty close, especially given that a good number of the athletes are there for sports.

Proud to say, UNEB at Lincoln, my alma mater, has a higher rate for athletes that non, as do a few others.

Feel free to dislike football, but don't make stuff up.

I would guess more people lined the road for one of the tour de France mountain stages than those that went to the superbowl. However, there are no admission fee required for watching the riders except for the cost to get to the stage, while the football team owners stand to collect a high ticket price for those that showed up for the game and the fans still have to pay to get to the game.

I think money has a lot to do with the incentives for the atheletes to cheat, but unfortunately those big money collectors turn a blind eye to those issues. I was pointing out how sad that much exposure Vicks got about the dogs compared to how little exposure NFL players testing positive got, and in contrast, the biggest headline that cycling ever gets is about doping.

I am very surprised that quite a few actually has higher graduation rates for athletes than for general student body. I guess sports might served to keep a kids straight sometimes, as I hope it would for my kids.
