View Full Version : How to get rid of decal glue?

I bought some cool new 30mm deep wheels a while back, and thought I could make them look better by taking off some of the garish decals. They came off easily, but they left a lot of glue behind. Nothing seems to take the glue off--I've tried goo remover, x-ski wax remover and other stuff, but all it does is soften the glue, not dissolve it. Short of sanding the rims, I don't know what to do. Now grass and dirt sticks to the glue, and makes the wheels look not so cool.

Any ideas?

Naptha and a rag - doesn't smell as bad as acetone, and won't rip the skin off your hands.

Even cleans the grease out of the edges of the chain stay protector.

+1!

Works everytime and also makes your raw finished Ti bikes really nice looking as well.

The citrus doesn't work on this stuff either, though it's worked on virtually every other kind of gunk I've tried it on. May have to go with the heavy duty chemicals...

Works for getting lables off of skiis and stuff... don't know if it'd hurt the wheels?

3M Tar and Bug remover. Available at any automotive store.

It that doesn't take it off, it is not what you think.

I once had a student employee whose GF did that to him. Then she took pix. Pretty funny.
