I feel old....

I have raced against Davis Phinney...

I hope his and his wife's (Connie Carpenter) offspring is even half as classy as those two. Will make the world a brighter place.

I sat next to Davis Phinney in Atlanta one night at a bike shop while someone from Serotta discussed frame technology. I think this was 1990 or 91. Davis, tired after the previous day's effort at the First Union Grand Prix (won by a young Mr. Armstrong), quietly nodded off then fell against me where he started awake.

I didn't wash for a week. Just a great guy, and the bike racer I have MOST wanted to emulate, in wins AND in sheer class.

Davis STILL rides a Serotta.

This is very cool. I remember the kid allegedly doing a little "showboating" at then end of Sunflower Revolution II and riding straight into a barrier!! He has come a long way.

He was a nice kid then, I'm sure he is an even nicer young man.

Local kid from here just got back (a week or so ago) from a series of Espoirs races in Canada. There were a total of about 250 racers there -- among them: Taylor Phinney. He said that Phinney was definitely a good racer, but that he was able to beat Young Phinney in some of the intermediate sprints. So I guess the jury is still out on sprinting ability. Maybe Taylor's time trial win is a better estimate of his future possibilities.

On a side note, our local guy said that it rained on them every day while in Canada. Nothing like riding approx. 100 mile races in the rain. :crap:

C'mon people, don't burden him with expectations any more than he already must be. Can you imagine having Davis Phinney for a dad?

Even worse, I give you Axel Merckx...

Cash Register!? wow...for a second I thought maybe this was another thread soliciting an online business to overthrow Serotta...

continue!

Love the Phinney clan!

The Tour du Pont used to come through Harford County in Maryland. I was at a start nearby...Len Pettyjohn of Coors Light (team manager) was there and I said hi and told him that I gotta Serotta because I liked his team and they were great...He took me to the team van and introduced me to everyone. Davis was there, Ron Kieffel...all of them. It was great. Anyway...D. Phinney was always classy...hope Taylor follows in his footsteps.
