Are these considered decent quality? I believe it is essentially an aluminum stem wrapped with a bit of carbon for looks?

A friend who owns a high end store did not recommend them when I got my new bike. His most used ones are Ritchey 4x and Easton

All those fancy carbon and carbon wrap stems are heavier and more expensive
than a nice forged alu stem.

If you like the looks of the Deda, go for it. Deda is a reputable brand,
it's not going to be a bad stem, just realize why you want it.

FSA have a new OS-99 stem that looks gimmick free, and it's under $100.
I'm a sucker for matching bar and stem combos, and the FSA Energy Traditional
bar is one of my favorites, they make a nice set.
Otherwise, the Oval Concepts R700 bar and stem are a great set too,
and so is the Deda Newton Bar and Zero100 stem.
