And hey, another way to look at it, again with the same theme:

Aaaaand AFTER:

Yes, Serottans, miracles can happen... 11 1/2 months after I was robbed and lost several bikes, lo and behold ONE of them (errr 'parts' of one of them) are back in my possession. What a crazy effing ride they must have been on.
The short version is UNOTACHE (Mike) (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showpost.php?p=360294&postcount=36) had several bikes stolen a few months ago; one of them, a Niner, shows up on ebay, "won" by a guy in WI (skifastchad)... Chad does some research on bikeportland.org blog and sees Unotache's listing for his stolen bikes and contacts him. Chad and Mike see a stripped Peg on ebay from the same seller, do some research on the blog and see what is probably my frame listed. Fast forward to the "seller" being arrested and sitting in jail (p.s. when arrested, he did not have the bikes, frames, etc.), who now says he thinks he knows where the frames are. A couple hours after that, the frames and parts land at his probation officer's desk, who forwards them to Ace PDX Detective Mike Frome, who's been leading the investigation into "methman81". Cut to yesterday, where Det. Frome drops off my frame at my office (how nice was that?!)
And voila! Andy's got a new/old project on his hands!
Check out the pics, including the closeup of the last spec of original color.

okay so i don't know how to embed cool guy images within my post...like i thought i did...hmmm, maybe some more tequila. anyway, you get the idea.
First up: paint. I love love love the earlier suggestion to have Round involved. At this point, a regular paint job would not do, and if a project like this would at all give Dario some relief, some outlet given what he is going thru, then Round, my Duende is your canvas once again.
I really like the "Arrows" scheme it had before; can't tell you how cool it was in person. I'd like something like that-- but now it feels like it has to have some of this "Evidence" or "Exhibit A" vibe in there as well (isn't it ironic that the original paint had fingerprints on it at the main triangle junctions? My frame still has fingerprint powder all over it as it sits...) The frame has now had a long strange trip, from Dario's shop in the Italian mountains...to Matt in SF...to me in Portland...and into the happy land that is meth junkies...and finally back to me. Somewhere in there there's a story, and Dario could make it sing.
This stuff never happens! Still can't believe I got her back. It's a long way from having its new first ride, but it's back. That is huge.

Dude ... I was thinking about this tonight and was going to ask about it, thanks for the update.
That's awesome and sad at the same time. Awesome to see you got the frame and a few parts back, but sad that you only got a bare frame and a few parts back. Paint it a really awesome color at least ... one of Peg's wild hand paint jobs if possible imho
You nailed it. I am happy to have it back, but it does seem a bit sad. People at work said the same thing you did when they saw the little pile of metal that once was so not just a little pile of metal.
It's a little of this  and a little of this :crap: . Very 'Duende.'

It's great to see justice done.
And I agree that frame deserves something special now.

born again, that's pretty cool. WHat a great story it will be with the pix and history when its built out again....if frames could talk....

Glad you got something back. Please keep us informed on the outcome of the trial for the scum who five fingered your bikes! I hope he does hard time and has to pay you back.
Good luck with the re-build.

Congrats. Must feel "good" in a weird sort of way.
I bet Dario, once he hears your story, will find the appropriate idea for your "new" frame.

Thanks for the follow-up. Great story with a happy ending (well, for the most part)
I may have missed the part on insurance... how are they dealing with this?

Oh that would be awesome ... tell Dario the story with the pictures you attached above, and then ask him to do a hand paint job ... as Longdaddy said, I bet he'll come up with an appropriate idea and you'll have a wild paint job as a result. I love his handy work when he paints, and I'm even excited to think of what he would do for this frame!

How 'bout some black & white "prison" stripes?
Cool story...get it built up an ride it on Tour de Blast with gasman and me next year!

My story isn't near as good, but the outcome was pretty cool...

Andy, that is so cool. I'm happy for you. Even though you now have a project on your hands I think that bike will mean a lot to you, more than it might have.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Dude,
I'm getting all misty here. Great story - congratulations on getting the beautiful machine back! You even got the cranks and seatpost. ...sniff...
Definitely send it to Dario for a repaint - He'll do something amazing, and add another chapter to this heartwarming story.
Congratulations! That is a good story. Thanks for letting us know how it turned out!

Yknow, I thought about that-- doing a flat black all over, maybe with gloss black Pegoretti logo, etc.-- very stealthy. Still could be an option, but really if Dario is up for it, I'm inclined to give him all the leash he wants to run...and whatever he busts out will be an original and definitely something better than I would ever have conceived.
We shall see!

Congrats on getting your bike...well most of it back.
I would agree, let Dario do as he feels and admire what he creates (though I do like the stealthy balck idea).

congrats on getting it back Andy. It's nice to know that some Det.'s are doing great work around here. Your old Fina is still riding strong too, just maybe with a few more scratches in the paint than before.

like someone said before, it's simultaneously happy and sad. like getting hit by a car -- your lucky to be alive but you still got hit.
i am extremely happy for you, though. it's great you got it back. i will ride my Marcelo with you in mind.

Great news. You must be feeling good that the thief was captured.
Parts are parts. You got the "soul" and backbone of your bike back.
