Riding in the Pawley's Island SC area?

I'll be at the beach in hot humid Pawley's Island, South Carolina next week and my brother and I are taking bikes. Last time we were in this area was 15 yrs ago and I remember spending too much time riding up or down Rt 17 which was way too busy. Anyone know a resource for country road riding down that way? Any forumites live down that way and can advise a nice ride or two?

I'd be glad to help out a bit and go over some routes.

Coastal riding here is not great, but there's always more than HWY 17.

If you want to drive down to Charleston, there are some decent groups rides 4 days a week. Some can get pretty hot in the middle of the season.

A zombie thread returns! My wife and I have been offered a free beach house on Pawley's Island for a week in early March. I'd love to have the opportunity to get in some early season training rides while I'm there. Any recommendations for road rides in the area? I'm willing to drive a bit (1/2 hour or so) if that gets me to roads quieter than Rt. 17.
