Well, summer has finally come to Texas! Now we'll pay for all of those nice 70's days from back in the winter with almost NO rides starting or ending in less than 90 degrees! Did a 70 yesterday, started at 9:00AM, it was 90 even then, finished at about 11:15AM and it was 94! Did a little 15 miler last night at about 7PM and it was still 94! Can 100 be far around the corner?...probably not!.....RAT is looking more and more interesting all the time!

You did 70 miles in 2:15?! Wow, is there an engine on that bike?

For over a solid month, we've had many 90+ temps. and last week our area registered 101 and 102 degree days. This week, we've had a few mid/high 80's, which have been great. Last weekend, I started using "Motor Tabs" in my bottles. All flavors are decent and the results are promising.

Stay hydrated!

Uh... thats a 31mph average. You need to be riding in the heat of France this time of year if you're doing that.

1) It was all downhill.

2) He means a 70-minute ride, which ended up taking him 2 hours 15 minutes.

Or it could be possible that he doesn't ride with a computer...

*those* people underestimate/overestimate stuff all the time.

:)

I don't ride with a computer, but I ride with people who do.

As brutal as winter can be here, it's days like today that make it worth it.

I just got back from a 40 miler (I'd tell you how long it took but you'd all laugh at me) under sunny blue skies, no humidity, temp 68 degrees when I left, 75 when I got back.

That's what I focus on when I'm riding to work in January and it's zero out and I can't feel some small but important body parts.

I say we build the fence on the TX-OK border and let the Mexicans figure out what to do with the illegals

I'm not RA, but I did the 1000k brevet and it was a GREAT ride, but hotter than h***. 99 degrees on Sunday, and I think just as hot Friday and Saturday. And only scattered clouds. I bought a 100oz CamelBack just for the ride as I heard there were long stretches without services, and I am glad I did. There are not that many stores in that part of the country (NW Florida, Georgia and Alabama) and the ones that are there aren't open early, late or on Sundays.

Dave, Dave, Dave...you are AWESOME! I called Joe numerous times to get updates while you guys were riding. Congratulations on such a successful ride! Yahoooo, Dave!!!!

Thanks for asking Len, but at the last minute, I decided to pass on the 1000k. A few of my longer rides over the last two months (especially a 226, 245, & 315 milers) had been a tad challenging. Not physically, but internal issues made the rides, well, interesting. I live and train in the country (NW Florida and south GA) and there was an occasion or two when, in need of water, I got it from places where, in hindsight, might be considered questionable. You know, the kind where it's 95 degrees, very low on water, and the next place to get fluid is 15-20 miles away...and then there's a gate at the road and there's a spigot  . A few tests have been done and until the results are back, I didn't want to push the ol' girl's system once again without knowing what is going on, if anything at all. I can be such a wimp sometimes. ;) :p

Again, Dave...you da man!! Congrats, dear friend!

.....that's enough already! I just got up because I couldn't sleep and checked this thread.....IT WAS A TYPO!!!!! We finished at 1:15PM....sound more realistic? Even THAT is pushing it for me, nice tailwind on the way home! Heck, I can barely DO 31 downhill, let alone average it!!!!!

Ooooooh, one thing nice about this place is you get gently brought back down to earth from time to time for sure!
