Smiley once started a CSi last call thread. Maybe we can do the same for Heads Up Adapters.

If we get enough interest, maybe Serotta will do a special run for us.

All those who would buy a 1" Heads Up Adapter please respond here.

I will take 2.

I'd like at least one, and could probably use a 2nd.

I would be interested in one maybe two. 1 inch.

I would like to sign up for 1000. Looks like a good way to make a fortune around here... :D

Seriously speaking though...if the price is manageable with the volume we are tendering in...I would go for 2 of these. Most, if not, all my bikes are 1-inches. And I am still collecting those old hardware made in the 80s-90s which are running I-inch steerer tube mostly.

So, 2 for weisan, please. ;)

Thanks Legend-pal for collecting petitions and providing me the "special loan" in the meantime :p

From previous conversations that I have had, I do not think this will happen.

It is not that they would not like to do it, it is more the fact that when one looks at all the things that need to be done, this item is toward the bottom of the list at this time. Like most companies there is not enough time to do all that they would like to.

Might have better chance getting something like this built by the fellow in PA that TOO TALL gets his ti seat post from. (Just a thought(

I have a 1" Heads-Up that I am no longer using. I don't remember how much it cost, but I think it was around $90. Price ??? --- maybe $50. Send me a PM or email.

I would take a couple in 1"!

I know a couple machinist, having owned a Auto repair & bike shops for many years. I knew a few from Controltech from the past and the owners.
Seems to be a large demand for these, and if the market is there, maybe with proper marketing, this could be profitable. Seems like Chris King would be the one, and the quality would be there.

QUESTIONS:
1) Do they have to be Ti? Aluminum would be more cost affective
2) What sizes in height in mm's, maybe 2 or 3 options of 1 1/8" and 1"
3) Colors Options: If Aluminum ( Black & Silver), any others?
4) What other name besides Heads-up could be used? I am sure Serotta has a patent on name & design.
5) What would be a fair price?

Keep this up and I may have to auction off my 1" HU.

I might be able to raise enough to afford another frame! :)

Not worth the cost of failure! I have made a few, the last one saw the customer not get it started stright and it got ugly from there. I was accused of making a part which damaged his frame (I maintain that it was the idiot with the tools), so I'm all done. Pressing a titanium piece into a titanium frame is taking your chances - use lots of Ti prep, have the thing TiN coated or use an aluminum piece.

Okay... time for a dumb question.... what's a heads up adapter. Why would you need one?

Assume it doesn't have anything to do with stem spacers...

thanks,

tnt

Terry,

It's a head tube extender which allows you to put the bars higher in a slightly better way than just using spacers. The bottom is a press fit into the top of the HT. The top of the HUA looks just like the top of a regular HT.

There is a limit to the number of spacers one should use above the top headset bearing for a given diameter and material steerer tube. By allowing you to put the headset bearing higher up the HUA allows you to go higher than that limit would allow. Athough structurally a HUA is probably is not quite as good as say a typical Pegoretti HT, which towers over the TT, it is close.

If you have to ask why, you probably don't need one.

Louis
