I am posting this for a co-worker. He has a chance to buy this bike. The buyer asked him to make an offer. What do you experts think? I don't know much about it, other than it's in great condition. The buyer says it's early 80's-I dont know about that. The campy parts seem more modern that the early 80's stuff I remember from back then. Anyway, your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but the classic Serotta frame looks minty and that very pretty late '80's or early '90's Campy stuff also looks very clean.

He probably wouldn't like it at all... I could buy it instead. :D

Seriously... I would guess around $800 or maybe a bit more. Maybe $1000.

I'd pay $1k. Then I'd strip the bike and sell ALL the parts as a group, including wheels. Start the bidding at $1, but put a hidden reserve on it of say, $650.

If it doesn't sell, you might make more money parting it out.

Keep the frame. Spread the rear end to 130mm. Put a newer group on it.

The frame is GOLD. Selling the parts/group might enable you to pay zero for the bike. Even if you only gained $500 by selling the parts, then outfitted the frame with say, an Ultegra parts kit, you will only have spent $1500 for the ENTIRE bike, and for a bike of this caliber, that's theft.

Just make sure the bike fits you before you buy it.

I'm sort of in line with Jeff Weir; maybe $400~$600, tops. Nothing terribly special about the bike, other than it is a Serotta, very well made back then too. The group, while good is still used and not mint, is serviceable for many more miles.

Based on the pic of the rear der. the Campy appears to be C-record from the mid / late 1980's. I built a bike with mostly C-Record last year as kind of a time capsule, and it was hard to find and more expensive than NR or SR.

If those are cobalto brakes they are serious money - $250 even used - they replaced the recalled C-record aero brakes for a time. I agree that $600 - 800 is a fair price, but parting it out may be worth more than that. The C-record rear der has been selling for $150 - 225 in good, not NOS shape recently.

Cheers!

Depending on how bad your friend wants the bike, I would say $700 give or take $50. USED steel bikes are very hard to place at a price above that.

For a specific buyer it might move toward 1000 because of memories she or he had of owning one like this. Components of that era (as others have mentioed) is another story ($$$$$)

Is is a 57cm and can I have the phone ## :D :D

if original, and I suspect they are, might be a bit of an annoyance. Noisy rubbing sounds. Minor detail and I might be off with my comment, just a bad experience with them turned me off. I appreciate you didn't ask for this detail.

Those are indeed bladed spokes, and one of them happens to be broken.
