View Full Version : Broken Centar shifter

I had been having trouble with my front derailleur - 07 Centaur quick shift. I have had to apply a lot of force to move the chain up onto the big ring. Today, I finally broke the paddle on the left brifter. I not sure if I was already in the big ring and still trying to shift, or if the extreme force I had been using to shift finally broke it. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know long it will take to get the part in (I almost certain my LBS doesn't have it in stock)? Approximately what will it cost? Sorry for 20 questions, I'm just trying to figure out how long I will be without a big ring.

If you disconnect the cable, does the front der swing relatively easily by hand? If not that is your problem. Otherwise, it seems possible/probable that the cable is very gunked up under the BB.
Happened to me once.

Was that something where you can order a part to replace it or do you have to buy a new brifter?

You can probably have it fixed. But a new brifter at the Centaur level might be cheaper. But be sure you know it's not one of the two problems I mentioned before you slap another brifter on there. You don't want to break another one.

Saab,
Thanks for the help. I will check out the price difference between the internals and a new brifter. The wrench at my LBS is a buddy of mine. I will pass on the trouble shooting tips. Hopefully we can figure out the underlying issue and have me back in action in a week or less.
Thanks again for the help,
Shaner
