Last saturday...

9 Hr.s riding with few stops on tandem. Saw more wild turkeys than I've ever seen in my life. On the ground, flying across the trees and walking thru fields.

Pine tar board bridges baked in the sun.

Today:

Boxwoods...the smell of them under my open bathroom window.

My 51' truck starts up on the first bump :) Sounds of valves warming up.

Hmmmm, hey thanks :)

I rode to work on Tuesday, and saw a fox cross the road with three kits in tow. And it was a perfect sunny morning, with beautiful quiet roads and nice hills. I'm lucky to live where I do...

- Feeling good at the end of a 100 mile ride
- 100 mile rides (few and far between nowadays)
- Having the position just dialed in on a bike
- Flying at 5:30 AM on a summer morning
- Flying at about 8 PM on a summer evening, cleared for a visual approach 20 miles out from 8000 feet with no traffic in the area. That's flying!
- Freshly cut grass
- Riding around Appleton, WI on a hot summer day. No traffic. Wind in the hair..... bliss!
- Riding in Switzerland, especially in Kanton Thurgau or St. Gallen or Appenzell. No traffic.
- Riding in the Twin Cities with my old buds. Leaving the house at 7 AM to ride with riders who have made life decisions in order to ride at that hour.

Farm fields, lazy summer rides in the Midwest, no traffic, no deadlines. Just riding along!

Some of you guys might not understand, but one of the things I love the most is just watching my kids play.....so carefree, and just pure enjoyment!

We got a cheap inflattable pool, and put it under the slide on the juggle gym, man, that looks like fun, and cold!!

Walking my big kid to school with my family.
Playing in the yard with my little kid and my puppy all morning.
Riding to work at noon, in the sun, on the best bike I've ever had.
Knowing that my wife will still be in a nice short skirt tonight, tomorrow, and for most of the summer.

Thanks, Tom.

I fell in love with and married one of those pretty college girls from 19th Ave almost 26 years ago. The diploma was just a bonus.

She's still pretty.
I'm still in love.

Everything else I like flows from that.

a bite of a hot fudge sundae that has the warmth of the fudge, cold of the ice cream and the sweet smoothness of the whip cream
last but certainly not least, fireflies lighting up a field on a summer night, maybe the most magical sight i've ever seen and it still fills me with wonder, just like it did when i was six

- Long steady climbs where you find the right gear and you settle into a rhythm and the universe is reduced to the sights and odors of your immediate surroundings and the sound the chain makes and the sound of your own breathing as the miles pass beneath you.
