if you could ride anything (fantacy price is no limit rule is in effect :D ) in roubaix, what would you choose?

based on the bikes i've ridden, i'd go with a mx leader.

you?

Something steel, with a steel fork.

Maybe my CSI when it is all built up.

Cinelli criterium bend handlebars.

Neutron wheels with appropriately wide tires. 23s I guess.

Any 650B with Mitsuboshi Trimline 38c tires. Gee, that was easy...

If I was competing, yeah right, then this (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2006/apr06/roubaix06/index.php?id=boonen_time/IMG_9908) baby.

For ****s and giggles, then I'd ride my Kirk just the way it is.

My bike with Pave tubulars...

Roubaix isn't so much about the bike, it's about how you ride it. There's an old saying, riding on cobbles hurts, riding slowly on cobbls hurts more. There's a speed at which you ride the top of the stones and you never feel the cracks between. Any bike at that speed is better than the softest riding bike going too slow.

Over the winter I've taken to riding my fixed gear with cross tires on the non-technical mountain bike trails I know of. I found out two things: First, the fixed gear isn't the right bike for big drops. Second (and this is the real point here), the fixed gear at speed is smoother, faster and less abusive than the mountain bike with it's suspension fork and tires that are twice as wide. Even on sections that were 100% tree roots, I found that faster was better.

Hey, are there any cobbles in or around Saratoga Springs?

This (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=24430&highlight=red) is what I'd ride, but with 24mm tubs.

see my bike in signature. Wheels are coming although I do have a set of Reflex/Chorus that are tied and soldered already that would do the job real nice.

I think you're onto something here! You could prolly go with a bigger motor though.

Something like what the motorcycle riders ride in Paris-Dakar would be about right I think!

I think I'd choose my '82 Raleigh Team Pro, with mavic SSC's

Since Jan Raas won P-R on the same bike that year,
I'd go for the full Raleigh Ti kit in tribute...

I'd would ride a Sachs. So I guess I will have to wait another 4 plus years before I will get to ride P-R. :)

I'd still lose control and wreck, but nothing on the bike would be broken.

Heck, I could even shift up 3 cogs sprinting outta the saddle and not have to touch the shift levers.

My travel bike is the same Easton 7000 Scandium as the Merckx Team SC.

It's a great, smooth frame. Hard to believe it's aluminum at all.

Just did a 35 miler on the Boulder Morgul Bismarck course.

I'm feeling very conflicted about my manhood, however.
If you look closely, you'll see a 12-32 mountain cluster in the back.

Ok, in about 6 weeks!

Thats too late for P-R, but not for a summer of fun riding at the beach and the mountains in and around Los Angeles.

Hopefully sooner, hint hint.

well tafi was on a c40 and backstedt couldn't get bianchi to make beer can bike that wouldn't break and as far as i know they were on their own tubulars!

i'm with jack on this- if i can't have my c50 with 1cm longer chainstays and a steel steerer tubed fork i'm going for a meivici and his lew wheels!

Tafi didn't win on his Ti Bianchi, but he liked it so much he kept riding it after Roubaix. Oh, and I'm sure they were playing with the house's money.

I'd like to try Trek Madone but with Alpha Q GS 10 carbon fork (it has a steel steer tube). Of course I'd want campagnolo bits and 36 hole hubs.
