Hi,

Does anybody know where I might find one of these chain savers?

Thanks.

I've not seen that one before, it might be home made
by the team mechanic.

Deda Elementi makes a "dag fang" that a lot of teams
use, which is inexpensive, and weighs almost nothing,
but doesn't fit every shape tube.

no. it has a flange at the top that allows the derailleur bolt head to pass through and pinch down on.

No, you can see that it's bolted on under the bolt that holds the FD to the braze-on adapter.

There was a thread on WW recently on fabricating these types of protectors...

"thread on WW" - what's WW? So this doesn't seem to be a commercially availaable item. Bummer. It looks pretty clean and isn't dependent on the seat tube shape, like the dog fang and other gizmos are. If anyone comes across a source for these, pass it along.

Thanks,

Thom

Yep, that is a device fabricated by one of the Lampre mechs. They have been using these for a few years now. Since you can't get one of these, try the N-Gear Jump Stop if you are looking for a similar device. It's a lot more robust than the Dog Fang, and I can attest that it works great on a road bike. Never have an issue with having to worry about losing the chain on a big ring dump.

Nick is great and will send one out to you and only expect payment when you have used it and are completely satisfied that it works for you. There are lots of reviews of it on mtbr.com's review section and all speak highly of it.
