Everybody is impressed when you show up for a club ride with the latest carbon-ti-zoot bike. Recommend me a bike for under $1K that nobody would take a second look at on a club ride, but has 85-90% of the ride of the best.

Storck Vision Light (Al) matte black finish, they'll never even see the bike let alone recognize it.

I built my Look KG281 w/ Ultegra 9 for less <$900 (not including wheels). I love it.

Edit: Well nevermind. Looks are not exactly stealth on my club rides.

If you're not part of everybody, does that make you a nobody? If that's a case, you can show up for any club ride with the latest carbon-ti-zoot bike and nobody will laugh at you.

with Ultegra for $1295 new at bikesdirect.com Under 16 lbs, advertised weight with FSA Crank. check it out at bikesdirect.com

Why buy something used (unless it's really good quality) when you can have new with warranty for $1300?

Check it out. I don't own one but bang for the buck, seems to be strong to me.

Find a good deal that fits.

Then work on the engine.

Buy used. There are always bargains on quality new and used bikes on Ebay and Craigslist. Strip the components and repaint the frame with a couple cans of flat black rustolean for the real stealth look. Tell anyone who asks that you're not sure what kind of bike it is but that you picked it up from some guy in a white van in a grocery store parking lot for a $100.

Then work on the engine. Yep, that's what really matters.

However, if you want a "less than $1000 bike" with good performance, keep an eye out on eBay. Some amazing deals to be had...

My used lugged Curtlo would be exactly what you are looking for. Skinny steel tubes, so-so paint job and a name that almost nobody has ever heard of.

I paid $175 for the frame from a forum member (via ebay) and another member sold me the complete build kit for $250

Try pedal force!

You can get a carbon and ti frame for $950 are all carbon for much less.

I have no idea if it is good, but I know other carbon bikes with different decals are made and the exact same thing as these.

Maybe Litespeed, but don't hold me to that. I teach goofy 5th graders so I lie a lot! :D
