View Full Version : Shucks, I scratched the braking surface on the rim

I have no idea how. After a few rides, I hear thunk-thunk-thunk when I apply the rear brakes. So, I stop applying the rear brakes. Problem solved.

Anyway, I check the back wheel thinking ***, did a seam appear or something? No, it looks like something came up across the side of the rim and left three little scratches diagonally across the braking surface.

It's aluminum. Should I just brush it with a little emery paper to get the high burrs off or should I try and reduce the gouges a little? They're not very deep.

Yeah, emery paper or krokus cloth on a flat block.
Tire off, of course.
