OT - Language Programs?

Anyone ever use one of the language courses (cd's, workbooks, etc.) to learn a second language on your own time? Are there some programs that are known to be better than others?

I think that the Pimsleur CDs are better than the Rosetta Stone, I've reviewed the Portuguese intro to advanced, and had students work with them with good results. They are audio only (there is a very slim notbook to learn pronunciation) and I put them on my Ipod and listened while I ran everyday.
