A friend sent me this yesterday about a guy in Germany that built this crazy fast VW bus. Check out this YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Zmc4RfHYQ8) and the official website is here (http://www.race-taxi.ch/). They have a couple videos on the website as well and a large group of photos documenting their build.

I want one!

Did you see that they made a carbon fiber roof for this thing?

Carbon fiber sucks. Steel is real! ;)

i helped a buddy of mine put an engine from a porsche 912 in a vw bus after its original engine blew up. we got the engine from another froot-loop who was putting a 911 engine in a 912....the vw bus was not fast but i did find some hurting porsche club of america or some such plaque and stucke it to the side of the thing.....

i don't think i have any pictures but that weekend cost me about forty hours and three thirty packs of carling's black label.

but this (http://members.lycos.nl/Vorden/espace.html) is faster :)That would be the ultimate mini-van. I can just see it now...some high school kid in his tricked out Mustang pulls up next to you and revs his engine...you give him then nod and then blow his doors off when the light turns green :D

That's got to be a little humiliating for the Porsche Aston, and B'mer guys to look in the rear view mirror and see a love bus coming up fast, then smoke by you like it ain't even trying.

I love it!!

Now, we need to see a video of the Bus going up against the 500 HP Volvo that someone posted about a while back.

William -- Check out the link posted TimD...that Renault has 800hp and can do 0 to 60 in 2.8 secs

Pre 68 buses are so cool to begin with. Did you notice in the vid how several times in the corners when he was getting back on the gas that the motor would start revving free? Must of been lifting the inside tire. He was losing ground at every turn and then making it back up with horsepower in the straights. Watching the vid you can understand why they cut the roof off of it and replaced it with CF. Very cool!

Cheapskates...needs 4wd haldex. Bend it fold it stare at it a long time no matter what you still hear that 1/2 an engine spitting oil. Love the Bus. Be the bus.

That's hot! But for maximum style points he could've done more with the graphics:

mosca -- I thought I read somewhere that this wasn't the "finished" exterior treatment yet and this was just good enough to start racing it.

Actually, that whole hippy-flower power-VW bus relationship may be a uniquely American phenomenon, so not sure if those Germans will find it amusing. Wonder what they'll come up with.

maybe 15 years ago, i had a 914. absolute go cart. could corner like nothing else. biggest issue was how low you were...even 15 years ago my eyes were at headlight height. imagine today. 914s could drive under some hummers! colliding head-on with anything in a 914 would have been seriously ugly.
