Starting eating everything. Put on enough weight that your bike will look like the tubes are very thin and light, and stay fit enough to drop even the feather weights on the toughest climbs.

Ride a lot, get really fit, drop those friends on every ride and spend your money on something more important than a light bike.

Tell them that's all you could afford when you finally got out of the mental facility for violent offenders.

Tell them that having a heavy bike doesn't make you a bad person.

I'm a slow rider on a relatively heavy bike, and I certainly get a lot of 'comments' about my bike. Nice folks just ask me how old it is. Others just can't believe I'd ride such a heavy bike.

We always say the best revenge is to get faster and drop 'em, but why? Why does speed play such an important role? Racing aside, why the obsession? Or maybe it's that so much cycling is racing in everything but name.

I can think of several instances where a faster rider has passed me during a century ride, and said "good job--you'll make it" or something like that. I guess it's nice, and certainly better than the people who blow by you without a word, but sometimes it feels a bit condescending. Or maybe it's all in my head, and I've assimilated this obsession with speed as much as anyone.

Maybe the solution is to lower other's expectations even further. I've always thought it would be fun to ride one of the really hard centuries (like Mt. Greylock or Highlander) on what would look like an old three-speed. Have a custom titanium frame painted black, with an 8-speed internal geared hub, great wheels, and albatross bars. But I'd still want a nice saddlebag to carry some pastries and a jacket, because I still want to have fun, which is really what it's all about...

Make fun of their light ones?

Do not drop them, though. As Dave said, or implied, that just plays in to the whole "speed is the only point" mentality, which is BS. If you DO buy into that, you should probably get a lighter bike.

on my next bike maybe rinestones outlining the maufacturers logo instead of plain paint or some light silly decal.

If you are going that route than velcro a fuzzy toy to the stem. OR my alltime fav. use a Binda strap to fasten a cat to your seatbag.

A friend of mine, who rode a heavy, POS bike (seriously, it was heavy and he never cleaned it) had a kid's toy horn strapped to his front fork...he would honk as he passed folks. And he passed most folks....
