Panels have a classic look and were common years ago on level TT frames, before sloping TT road frames were popular.

Do panels lose their appeal on a compact frame with the shorter ST, or does a shorter panel fix the look?

Maybe a single DT panel is a good option - I see Moyer doing that quite a bit on his frames.

If somebody can point me toward a good-looking panel job with a sloping TT frame, I'd appreciate it.

Level TT. Panels.

Now that wasn't hard, was it?

OK, this might just be a gratuitous opportunity to show off, but here's one I'm particularly fond of. :D Paint courtesy of Joe Bell...

that my new brazed Co-Motion frame looks as good as either of those bikes. It will be a dark orange metallic sloper with mica white panels. If she looks hot you will definitely see her on the forum, if not....well....

I'm with Tim the Dead Pirate on this one. I think panels look best on level top tube bikes, preferably ones without spectacular OS tubing. Slopers with OS I prefer with simpler paint, which adds to the menacing, stealthy, badass intentionality. Here's a good sloper: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=22104 This one's good for contrast and still manages the sloper thing: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=25945 This one's fantastically good: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=16527 (but the computer thing on the top tube...Eric...please...;-) And if I may be so bold, the photo does no justice: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=2006&highlight=Bridgestone

And just in case you need to see the perfect race bike, look at Eddy.

I think the CDA WITH ORANGE PAINT AND WHITE PANELS IS VERY NICE...even had my legend to/st painted that color...Really like it BUT then I was never ordained the fashion leaderd :p

I don't know why, maybe because I'm kind of old school, but that bike looks like a racing bike to me. The level top tube, the quill stem, the round bars, it "speaks to me" (get that SoCalSteve?)

Here's mine. These pics are kind of old, the tape and saddle are white now and the wheels are different but the frame remains the same.

Nice Vanilla!

What do you guys think, in general about a single panel on DT or ST?

Sometimes I think the lone ST panel looks a bit unbalanced - but the single DT panel, like the Vanilla pictured above kinda looks clean & simple.

My new CDA will have a single panel on the downtube with the logo "S" on the outside of the seat tube, Frost White panel on CA Red with CA Red painted on logo on the downtube panel. The logo S will be Frost White painted on CA Red. Can't wait and I'll post up photos when I get it built.

I think that the dark blue Concours with white panels and orange rings looks absolutely fantastic.

To my way of thinking, traditional and new school (sloping TT, straight blade forks, brifteurs, thin saddles etc.) bikes are apples and oranges. At least with regard to aesthetics.

Can't wait to see the pictures. The CDA is one nice riding frame.
