Alright, this is my official guess: Funky spoke pattern on the non-drive side?

Ok, I'll guess, from the other side of Missouri, the hub looks rather Campy like??

What's the secret to getting 9spd on the "10spd only" 7800's?

That's a lot of work to run 9sp...

not really- it didnt take jeremy long to do the work- and he did not (IMHO) charge much to do it-
this allows me to get the benifits of a kick @ss set of hubs and still be able to run 9s- so I can mix and match my wheels among all my bikes-
he will be building a set for Deerfield soon- DA10 hubs on Mavic P-R rims- so I can then run a MTB 9 speed cluster-
again- I think we are in the "why did the chicken cross the road" area here
why did I do it- why not? I can still run 10s- and 8s . . . . you get the idea

Jason, as always cool stuff
nice work Jeremy
Brilliant really because for a far smaller price you get a host a wheelsets that work without having to deal with compatibility issues and lack of versatility---or the consequent costs of an "upgrade" to 10. Nine worked best across Campagnolo/Shimano cassettes too: I rountinely use either cassette with 9, no no no no problem. Good thinking.

Great stuff! Have you seen what NOS 9-speed DA hubs are going for on Ebay? $$$
Does anyone have photos of what the hub looked like before surgery? Is this something I could do with a Dremel?

Im not thinking so- the Dremel that it-
the freehub looked the same- the splines were just taller

scroll down the page here- they show the cassettes- looks like you are talking 1mm off each spline- good luck!!!

I've done some nifty things with a Dremel, but there is no way I'm attempting that one! Thanks for the link to Sheldon's site, it all makes sense now.
"Hey, hon, I'm going to Sears for a new lathe. Back soon."
