hello. it seems like the most badass frames are being built by the folks who worked at match (steve h., m. tweedy, goodrich, pacenti). are there any web resources with information on this company, the frames they built (some Paramounts? did they make any Rivendell stuff?), any other match alumnus with their own marque(s), general history?

Thanks in advance. :)

btw, Mike Flanigan has a nice writeup (http://antbikemike.com/about.html) about Fat Chance, Indy Fab, Serotta, etc history.

Search out a back issue of the Rivendell Reader, by Grant Petersen/Rivendell Bicycle Works. There was an interview with Tim Isaac, founder of Match.

Sorry, I don't keep my back issues so I can't help you out more.

match made all of those last lugged 853 Paramounts. They made some bikes for Rivendell. The early steel Hampstens were made by match (my Cinghiale was) and there were at least a few match branded bikes. There may be more, but those are certain.

I think match built a few frames for Robert Beckman, but that's all I can add to the list.

Other match alumnae include Rick Ghneme building locally under the name "Banana Boy" - nice frames, btw. Mark Bulgier was a stalwart at Davidson for many years before he came to match and may have a couple of frames out there with his own name on the DT. Alistair Spence is getting back in the game as the go-to guy in Seattle for custom porteur racks as well as producing some fine rackwork for that sunflower-motifed bike line. Tim Isaac works for Pacific Cycle in China, I believe, and Brian McCarthy is back in his family business and keeps me supplied with paper products and anecdotes. Tim's sons Billy and Jack I haven't kept up with.

Apologies to any characters missed; all inaccuracies are intentional and my own damn fault.

The Velvet Underground of NW frame building, imho...

You are correct Steve. Beckman commissioned Match to build a few Sakkits. This example had it frame lugs filed and pinned by Kirk Pacenti and Martin Tweedy braised the frame. The racks are Beckman Designs as well.
