I have always ridden Conti. road and XC tires partly because I have such great luck with them regarding very few flats and also I can EP them through a shop connection. Now that shop no longer has EP for Continental so I am thinking of Michelin Pro Race 2's. What about flat protection/durability with those. Any experience? I've never tried them.

I think the pro races are just about the perfect combo of feel and flat protection-

they really are very durable. Much more so than their previous incarnation (which were alright anyway).

Separately, the Krylon Carbon is perhaps the best commuter tire I've yet to use. Considerably stronger than the Gator Skin although I prefer the ride quality of the Gator. I just finally had to throw away the first Krylon after 4k use on mostly wet roads.

I feel that way about the Continental GP 4000 tires (700x25). I know cyclists who use the Michelin Pro2Race and feel just like you, although some prefer the Veloflex or Vittoria for feel.

I stayed with Conti and switched from Gran Prix 4-seasons to GP 4000's - maybe next time for the Michelins.

...recommended these Michelin Krylion tires (http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/affich.jsp?codePage=2092004115340_21032005140627&codeRubrique=2092004115340&lang=EN) when I asked for a set of Pro Race 2s. He said these didn't have much of a weight penalty but would have much better flat resistance. I've riden about 100 miles on them and have no complaints so far.
