I am considering a real estate investment and/or relocating to Grants Pass, OR. Any opinions about the biking community here or about the community as a desirable place to live. It ain't Ashland and the real estate seems reasonable compared to there or anything in CA.

I live in Ashland. The climate and surroundings are similar. Property prices in between Ashland and Medford-11 miles to the north-are significantly lower than right in Ashland and similar to Grants Pass but probably prettier places to live in Grants Pass for the money than any where further south in Oregon. Seems to be a pretty good sized biking community up there from my limited contact with them, and the rest of the community seems pretty supportive/tolerant. I think there are better rides from downtown Ashland than from downtown Grants Pass, both road and mtb, but that is obviously my personal perspective, and I also don't know all of the riding that is available in Grants Pass. From downtown Ashland there are 4 nice road climbs of 2500-4000', and several singletrack/closed to vehicle traffic or lightly used rides with 2000-5000' of climbing and lots of alternative branches. 20-30 minutes south of Grants Pass is Medford, with a very active bicycling community. http://www.siskiyouvelo.org/. You might want to touch bases with them also. :D
