Can I use a SRAM Rival front derailleur with a Campy Ergo shifter? Will that work or should I go Campy-Campy or SRAM-SRAM?

what's the rest of the build?
I need to 'see' the big picture!

What you can do and what's smart are two different things. I would always match the shifter and derailleur. There's no good reason not to.
Campy revised the front shifter and double FDs for 2007. They're now called QS for quick shift. They changed the rachet to engage quicker so there's less dead travel on the finger lever. The FD has a longer arm, so it's easier to move.
Older levers can be converted by replacing the rachet, EC-RE134, to the new EC-RE234.

The age-old issue. Dave is right, of course. The Campy stuff is from 2006, if that makes any difference.

Shiftmate does not help -- looking for front, not rear, derailleur compatibility.
