MARCH 10, 2004 -- "I can eat pretty much anything. I ride bikes--I'm a bike-sexual. I ride hard, I ride long. I go long distances on a bike. I'm sponsored by Viagra, which means I don't need a kickstand." --actor Robin Williams, quoted in the March 15 issue of PEOPLE magazine in a page of "last-minute diet secrets/Oscar week slimming tips"

I've read he has "hundreds of bicycles". Does anyone know what he rides? Does he own Serottas? Weigles? Sachs'? Spectrums? racing bikes? unicycles? randonneurs? Or what?

He has all kinds of dream bikes. I recall high-end Colnagos, I think, that sort of stuff. He's a friend of LA, and goes to Austin to ride the century there with LA. I imagine Texas cyclists will jump in on this.

He has two of the first run Merlin Newsboys in his stable.

I was there the day (circa '96) that he stuffed the Newsboy and a new Serotta into the back of his Land Rover. He used to shop a lot at City Cycle (RIP Clay) but now can found more often buying (not browsing) at A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito.

Last time I was there (@ ABO and he was there) he purchased a CSK TT rig (and the time before a nude Dragonfly). He lives down the street from me (when in SF) so we have the same route to get to the GGB.

Humble guy when it comes to cycling talk and a bike shop owners favorite customer.

I think on Pez he was recently spotted on a surprisingly small, I thought, Indy Fab. Solid.

I saw him at Ride for the Roses in Austin a few years back on the Indy Fab carbon/ti model, whichever that one is.

I've seen him on a Colnago and Serotta. I was in City Cycle once when he picked up his Colnago that was being worked on. He was with what I'm guessing were his two kids. I told him nice bike and he said thanks. I remember he left his repair receipt on the counter with his name written on it. I sort of wanted to take it. There was an article in a local San Francisco paper a while back that talked about his collection. He had an estimate done for insurance purposes by Clay - the late owner of City Cycle. I think the estimate was something like $100k.

I ran by him near the beach in Vancouver and he was riding a Merlin. He even smiled at me. I blushed.

Actually, i am not a Robin Williams fan, but I've gotta say, he's generally got impeccable taste in bikes!

I actually rear ended him once. I was going to make a clean get away to but then Burt Bacharach come out of nowhere and started signing about how he'll never get ~"hit in the rear again." ~

I'm not sure if I dreamed that or not.
