I have a buddy selling a 2011 Special Edition pinarello dogma

The frame is original from 2011 but the components were upgraded to Ultegra 11spd R8000 from 2018

He wants $2400CAD for it. It’s my size

What’re your thoughts? Should I go for it?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200922/b1f68960d50a100a953c7038d1be9d53.png

It's a polarizing bike - people either love or hate the design - but the geometry is excellent. If you are okay with very limited tire clearance and don't mind a bit of a weight penalty compared to the latest options, go for it. Life is short and you might as well have some good clean fun while you can..

I can't see how you can go wrong at that price with the R8000 groupset.

Um, of course this is just a personal opinion, but I think it's one of the ugliest bikes ever made. Others may disagree and if you like it, that's all that matters.

You're new here, so my first question to you would be, it may be your size, but have you checked whether it will fit you or not? Reach and stack?

Also, I don't know a lot about this bike so maybe others can confirm, but tire clearance is likely to be very low on a 2011 frame, so you are probably looking at a max size of 25 mm, but more likely 23 mm. Where are you in Canada? If you want to ride into the fall in most places, you're probably better off with 28s imo.

To me, $2400 sounds a bit pricey for this bike. Does it include those wheels? What are they? I would think you could get a much newer, if not new, frame although with Shimano 105. New Ultegra bikes usually go for more than $3000 in Canada.

But if one likes that look, I'll bet that will roll as good as anything else.

It would have to fit at least a 25 for a Clyde like me.

One additional factor to take into account; I think the Chinarello copies, which mimic the wavy fork and stays, have pushed the value of legit Dogmas of that era downward. This may matter to you or not. In any case, make sure it's genuine.

If you are going to buy a used bike, no better than getting it from a friend. Second, from a comment above, I have yet to see an Ultegra bike for $3000 unless it is used in Canada. My vote is to purchase the bike.

Someone once told me it reminded them of a dog squatting to go to the toilet. Ever since then, I can't unsee it. I mean, ugly before, but even uglier after.

My current bike. No real need to get a third (second is impulso 105 alloy)

Just curious what everyone that of the price. I personally find my sempre more attractive

I'd keep your Bianchi and save up for a modern frame that isn't a decade old. The parts are good but unless you absolutely love that frame, move on.

For sure!

I think the components are good enough on my 2016 sempre that I can find a modern frame next season to swap. Or keep riding this setup for a few more years

Why do Pinarello forks always look like they're on backwards?

Add melting clock and hooked wooden support decals and it could be your Dali ride.

Glad you decided against the Dogma.

It reminds me of the Fliz bike:

The seat stays and fork just kill any desire for owning one of these. Could be the greatest bike ever but just can't get beyond a fork that looks like it melted. Keep the Bianchi.

This ^^^.

...and based on your Bianchi set up pics compared to the Dogma, the Dogma looks to be on the larger side?

Btw, if you are bent on getting a Pinarello, Merlin UK or Excelsports USA have a bunch of current models on clearance.

Nah. I dabble with triathlons / duathlons here and there and ride for fitness but like to go fast and ride with a pretty quick group. Always looking to beat my times

With those pink highlights that may be a Giro d'Italia special edition. Google for that.

Someone left it in the oven too long - it's melted  And as fugly as a bush pig.

I thought everyone on this forum loved Dogmas? Anyhoo OP, why do you care what anyone else thinks? Buy and ride what you like.

Probably rides better than 99% of bikes, don’t listen to the haters

I'd get an F8. I recently picked one up and its an incredible bike, without question the best bike I've ever ridden and fast as hell. I think it beautiful because it rides so well.

If you've always wanted one, grab it. If not, maybe pass for something not so old.
Again I can't see how this is any more/less ugly than a lot of the stuff people (here) are likely riding. On a Trek? Cervelo? Specialized? Almost anything with a sloping tube sized like a t-shirt? Don't be tossing stones.

I say pass and keep the bike you have. Is there something you don’t like about the Bianchi?

This is the Dogma 65.1 BoB with the giro pink? I think it is a nice bike. The whole asymmetric bottom bracket looks weird but it works. Cav won many a sprint on a bike like this.

It's a good price with new components. You just need to double check the frame for any hairline cracks. I managed to crack the seat stays on my 8.

Chris and the guys at Bicycling Mag really loved this bike back in the day. I think it is better than the newer F12 which is just too harsh even though it fits 28s. I think the F8 was the best of the bikes though.

Thanks !! It took a lot of time, inspiration and introspection to cobble together my response. I'm glad it was recognized and appreciated. :)

These bikes, while aesthetically polarizing, are associated with a monumentally successful successful team and have a great pedigree. It’s an iconic design. I was a hater when they first came out, but I’d probably jump on one at the right price if my size. Of course ultegra 8000 is a perfectly reasonable build for a rider but I’d probably swap out for DA9000 mechanical, PRO cockpit etc.
I’m doubtful that these (or most any bicycle) will appreciate in value but I’d be willing to bet these will be sought-after in the future.

Best reply so far.

As far as ugly goes... don´t we all wear tight spandex & helmets in bright colors?

galgal

Since it is a friend selling it, couldn't you get it to test ride, and see how it feels/rides for you? For fit, first of all, and then to see how it compares with your current ride. If both aspects come up aces, that should trump what we think about how it looks, right?

There's a REALLY nice white F8 in the classifieds coincidently. Amazing price too considering it's a Wiggins team bike
