Need advice on raingear pants etc. I'm from the desert and can't remember the last time I rode in the rain (other than getting caught in a brief summer TS). I'm fine for jackets. What do you use on your legs and feet(non-insulated)? This will be for a warmer weather (May) ride in the midwest (TOSRV). Thanks for your help.

Rain bottoms?

Never use 'em.

Cycling shorts, socks, shoes, cleats. It's only water....and a little mud.

Add some cow manure if you're in dairyland. Good for the complexion.

IMO the best "rain bottom" is a front fender with a mudflap.

On the other hand, if you DO want some protection beyond a fender (essential, btw), think about Rainlegs. They just cover the front of your legs down to just below the knee, but that's the area that's most exposed to direct rainfall. If its raining really hard, you're gonna get wet regardless - with full rain pants you'll sweat to within an inch of your life and a poncho will probably get you blown off the bike (most good rainstorms around here come with a good dose of wind too - I only like ponchos when I'm riding around town in street clothes). But in a moderately hard rain, you'd be amazed how much rainlegs help keep your shorts or tights dry. I used them for the first time last summer and was skeptical going in, but a convert coming out.
