I am considering a MTB frame but I worry that it is too small for me.

Currently, I ride a 17.5" (med) Trek Cobia with the following geometry:

The one that I thinking is 16.5" (sm) with the following geometry:

The 17.5" one fits quite well for me and although the second one is sized 16.5", the overall dimension seems to match the 15.5" from Trek, hence I don't think it would fit me well. i am about 5'9" with 32 in seam.

Thanks in advance for any input.

for me, no less than 1" longer TT on my MTB VS Road, FWIW.

So for you, ETT is 1" or more longer for MTB over Road?

MTB new school geo has longer frint centers and top tubes. Built to be ridden w/ much shorter stems and wider bars. Go by the height size fit of the manufacturer.

Yeah, MTB geometry is very confusing between manufacturers.

The 16.5 has a steeper STA while both have a similar HTA, so I wonder if the saddle is located in the same position relative to the Bb, will the reach be the same?

I find mountain bike sizing to be all over the place for me. I find that I can fit multiple different sizes comfortably and I am the same height and inseam. I have owned and ridden 16.5, 17.5, 18.5 and 19" Trek mountain bike and enjoyed them all. The 16.5 and 17.5" were my favorite though.
